Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen liked playing sports as a young girl and excelled in sports. The passion she had for sport was coupled with the natural ability to doing shows. It was evident when she received each Feis for theatre and drama that Ireland had to offer. In her teens She was admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her love of classical theatre as well as operatic music was followed. Charles Laughton was mesmerized after viewing an Maureen screen examination. He was immediately captivated the stunning eyes of Maureen. Laughton changed her name to Maureen FitzSimons, from Maureen FitzSimons, to "Maureen O'Hara" it was a diminutive version of her last name. The name change happened prior to Laughton cast her in Jamaica Inn. Maureen FitzSimons' second movie (The Hunchback of Notre Dame - 1939) was set to be produced by RKO Pictures in America under an agreement with Laughton. This epic movie was a massive hit and her contract was transferred from Laughton by RKO. In the year 19 Maureen had already appeared in two major motion pictures with Laughton.
